Academy President Letter
February 14th, 2018
From the Desk of J. R. Brandt DC, MS, FACO
Academy of Chiropractic
Happy Valentine’s Day Fellows,
The news just continues to get better! Last week I told you about new classes starting in Wisconsin this year. Over the last several days I found out Ohio is going to start a program this fall. Also, interest from the following state associations has occurred Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Connecticut, Oklahoma, and Kansas. All have indicated an interest in hosting an orthopedic biomechanical neuromusculoskeletal Diplomate program. The interest in orthopedics continues to expand.
Please watch the website for an upcoming announcement between the Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedists and the College of Forensic Sciences (CFS).
A couple of the significant changes will be making it so much easier for you and the Academy to maintain, track and submit continuing education hours into the site as well as improving the ease in using the payment portal. It is significantly reducing the amount of administration time needed by you as well as the membership committee, recertification committee, and the Executive Director.
Additional opportunities to improve your name and address area in the membership finder are also being considered and ideas continue to be generated. We will be looking at being able to put more information in the field about you and your practice.
Down the line look for a “store” that will have Academy products for sale.
Other minor changes are being made and have been made to the website over the last week or so. See if you can spot two!
It is the goal to make our site more robust, informative and helpful for the membership. We are aware that many outside entities continue to view the site and look for information.
The Academy is continuing to write its application to become certified by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). This continually evolves as the Academy expands its examination procedures with international involvement. We must be sure these changes fall within NCCA parameters. Expanding the footprint internationally is becoming closer to reality. Currently, the Academy has many Diplomates throughout Central and South America, Europe, Middle East and the Pacific basin.
Naturally, all our actions will need additional Fellows to help meet this growing demand. If you are asked by the Academy to help whether it be the examination process, board work or other committees, please volunteer. The strength of this organization comes from its members. We think we have the best members of any organization!
Exciting “stuff” continues to be taking place, and soon more information will be available to you.
Remember, if you have friends that have taken orthopedic hours from other institutions, those hours are still valid and are included towards the 300 hours. The University of Bridgeport now has 250 hours of online classes in addition to the hours coming from various states. This makes it so much easier for those doctors who may have been disenfranchised one reason or another to fulfill their dream of an orthopedic biomechanical neuromusculoskeletal specialist.
Again, on behalf of the Academy Board, I want to thank you for your patience, your understanding and your continued support for your organization. We are not about to stand still but are continuing to evolve and improve.
Remember the American College of Chiropractic Orthopedists (ACCO, https://acco.wildapricot.org/) convention in Carlsbad, California is Thursday, April 19, 2018, to Saturday, April 21, 2018. Dr. Tim Bertelsmann, an orthopedist, is speaking and those hours may be accredited towards the 300 needed for Diplomate status. Dr. Bertelsmann is a lector for the University of Bridgeport’s postgraduate orthopedic biomechanical neuromusculoskeletal medicine program. Hours will not be accredited if there is duplication. This is an excellent opportunity to pick up some additional hours.
Remember that Valentine!
