November 2017 President’s Letter

Academy President Letter
November 7th, 2017

From the Desk of J. R. Brandt DC, MS, FACO
President
Academy of Chiropractic

Dear Fellows,

We are pleased to welcome our new Diplomates into the chiropractic orthopedic family. Membership remains stable. Thank you!

Part I test dates for next year have been released by the Examination Committee of the Academy. Make a note of the dates and tell friends.

We continue to examine doctors that had taken the orthopedic class years ago but did not complete the examination for various reasons. Our post-examination review by the candidates continues express appreciation for a fair and challenging test. The process continues to get high marks. Thank you to the candidates for your input and critique. Since our first examination in 2004, this has been the sentiment. Unfortunately, there are still many candidates that were disenfranchised by the now-defunct American Board of Chiropractic Orthopedist’s (ABCO) examination experience. The current Academy process follows strict, fair psychometric methodology. It must follow protocols, or we could not proceed with NCCA certification.

If you know a friend or colleague that is in that group of doctors, have them contact the Academy for information. Certification is becoming more important in health care.

Dr. Skibsted and I had the opportunity to visit the ongoing class sponsored by the Illinois Chiropractic Society. The Academy will audit one of the 10-hour sections of the student’s curriculum.  The Academy outlines the examination process for the class and answers their questions. The Chicago group is a large class.

Classes are being considered throughout the US for 2018 and 2019. This includes up to 6-8 new locations. I would expect by my next newsletter I will be able to announce one of the locations.

The Academy will be meeting in the next couple of weeks with two new vendors that can help us with certification and recertification. We need to see if they can be helpful at a reasonable cost.

As we close in on Thanksgiving, the Academy Board wishes to thank all those doctors who are members, the volunteers and those supporting our specialty. Over the last 18 years, our growth, stability and foot print has been increasing and is a blessing. We have set future goals to make it even better!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

You are the one who must choose your place… James Lane Allen
