Academy President Letter
August 30th, 2017

From the Desk of J. R. Brandt DC, MS, FACO
President
Academy of Chiropractic

Dear Fellows,

I am announcing in this President’s letter a dramatic change in the examination process for the specialty of Chiropractic Orthopedics.

As you are aware, last year we introduced a Part I examination that is an online process. This new process was met with positive comments from the candidates and educators. It is a psychometrically sound process. We were advised in this process by a national educational testing company located in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The Examination Committee has continued the process by developing an up-to-date system of procuring new questions. This activity involves groups of chiropractic orthopedists writing questions. Another group works as item judges that review the questions and place them in the proper Job Analysis category. The examination is based upon the JA that the Academy updates every five years. The development process has been running smoothly for the Part I and Part II Chairs.

Over the last year, the Academy has been working to develop an ON LINE Part II examination.  It has happened. Contracts were signed earlier this month, and development is underway. It will be ready for candidates in the fall of 2018.  The examination can be taken at the same location the doctor took the Part I examination. Within the next few months, more information and updates will be forthcoming. The Academy Board has spent many conference calls, committee meetings, and SKYPE sessions to complete this process. It is very inspiring and will be state of the art.

The Academy has been working on an international foot print over the last couple of years. That is now moving forward, and both examinations allow anyone anywhere to take the board examination. ALSO, it provides consistency in the examination process no matter where in the world the candidates reside.

Credit must be given to the University of Bridgeport with their vision and effort of expanding this post graduate opportunity for the doctor of chiropractic.

This new process is a significant benefit for the candidates. Money saved on travel and time out of the office will be considerable. The cost of Diplomate certification has just gotten less expensive. Again, more information will be forthcoming regarding the process.  This test is the “first of its kind” in post-graduate education. Our psychometric and testing company has input and guidance.

Yes, we are still working on the NCCA certification. We have moved forward with more requirements since the last newsletter.  I am truly humbled by the dedication exhibited by of ALL the doctors involved in the examination process, the NCCA project as well as the “usual business” of the Academy. What a “can do attitude” by these doctors. They not only put their nose to the grindstone but add other ideas and suggestions. Again, I will tell you; we have more in the hopper that will be coming out in the future.

The Part II examination at NWHSU in Minneapolis will be given on September 30, 2017. The examination is now closed.

The American College of Chiropractic Orthopedists (ACCO) have their yearly symposium in Carlsbad, CA on April 19-21, 2018. The location is the Hilton Garden Inn.  Additional information will be forthcoming regarding the conference. Mark your calendar.

Please pray for the safety of the people of Southern Texas and the devastation they have suffered.
