ACADEMY DEVELOPMENT AND REDESIGN

The Academy web site is currently undergoing a major redesign and upgrade of features. This is not just a new “pretty face”. The new Academy web site will bring many enhancements, capabilities and member benefits not previously seen on the old web site. The new improved Academy web site should be on line with most page content by the middle of August. However, some development may continue over the next month with additional features phased in gradually. Please visit the site frequently at www.dcorthoacademy.com to view the most recent additions and latest developments.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

The membership committee is currently redefining membership benefits to include an enhanced member search page for consumers and patients to access active members. The web page will provide an on line resource of Academy Fellow member’s contact information and office location.

DELPHI COMMITTEE

The Delphi Committee is actively engaged in developing updated clinically pertinent multiple choice questions (MCQ) for both the initial orthopedic diplomate specialty board certification exam as well as the re-certification exam for previous orthopedic specialty board certified chiropractic physicians that need to revalidate the orthopedic specialty credential following ten (10) years of orthopedic specialty board certified practice.

ACADEMY DIPLOMATE BOARD CERTIFICATION AND RE-CERTIFICATION EXAMINATION DATE
14 NOVEMBER 2009

The next orthopedic specialty board certification examination is scheduled to occur on 14 November 2009 on the campus of National College of Chiropractic / National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, Illinois. Re-certification is a voluntary process. Additional information may be found on the TCCO web site at www.texascouncilofchiropracticorthopedist.org as well as the Academy web site.

National University of Health Sciences (NUHS) / National College of Chiropractic in Lombard, Illinois will present a comprehensive review over two weekends the September 19 – 20, 2009 Comprehensive Orthopedics Review I – Diagnostic Imaging (Skogsbergh);
October 10 – 11, 2009 Comprehensive Orthopedics Review II – Clinical Conditions & Rehabilitation (Fonda). Please visit the NUHS web site at http://www.nuhs.edu or call the NUHS continuing education department at 630-889-6622. Additional information may also be found on the Academy web site.

COLLEGE NEWS
ORTHOPEDIC DIPLOMATE PROGRAM

The Academy is pleased to announce that Palmer Chiropractic College will begin an Orthopedics Program this fall with a new structure (17 live sessions/online vs. 30+ live sessions in the old program), learners will be able to earn diplomate eligibility in approximately 2 years from the start date and will save on travel time and expense away from the office. ACADEMY JOURNAL

The Journal of the Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedists (JACO) will soon be presented in both HTML format to enhance on-line reading and a PDF format to enhance download capabilities.

Over recent months the Editorial Review Board (ERB) has been expanded to include additional medical health care members that will expand the content of articles specific to the orthopedic specialty. Updated ERB guidelines have been established to enhance article quality. The ACO eJournal currently considers the following article types: Case report, Commentary, Database, Debate, Hypothesis, Methodology, Research, Review, Short report and Study protocol articles.

The Academy is grateful for your participation and continued dedication to further advance the orthopedic specialty and the chiropractic profession. It is only through your support and team work that the specialty is able to accomplish these professional advances.
